Fixed Benefit Plans are a Low-Cost Option with Nationwide Coverage

Fixed Benefit Plans Overview

Fixed Benefit plans from United Healthcare (called Health Protector Guard) are fixed indemnity health insurance plans. This means that instead of paying a percentage of your medical claim like traditional insurance does, these plans will pay a fixed benefit amount for medical services. These plans have a schedule of payments so that you know exactly how much the plan will pay towards your doctor visit, hospital stay, prescriptions, surgery, etc.

Why We Like These Plans

We have compared United Healthcare’s fixed benefit schedule with every other fixed benefit plan on the market, including those offered by Freedom LifeNew Era, and Family Motorcoach Association (FMCA) and have found these plans to have the most generous fixed benefit indemnity payment schedule by quite a bit. Additionally, these plans do not have annual nor lifetime benefit maximums with them like their competitors’ plans do (some plans have $2M annual and $5M lifetime limits). Furthermore, like all of the plans we offer, you can use these plans in all 50 states and have access to over 5,000 hospitals and almost a MILLION healthcare professionals.

South Dakota Residents

The United Healthcare Health Protector Guard plans are not available to SD residents (as well as a few other states). Instead we recommend the Manhattan Life Affordable Choice plans for you. You are welcome to request a quote from us for these plans or click here to run your own quotes

Who are Fixed Benefit plans best for?

Who We Like These Plans For

The Fixed Benefit plans are best for US travelers who want maximum freedom to choose their doctors, are healthy, under age 65, want to keep their monthly healthcare costs to a minimum, and don’t want a high deductible health plan. If you enroll in this plan you should be okay with sharing the cost of medical expenses since they do not pay 100% of your claims.

INSIDER TIP >> Consider supplementing a subsidized ACA plan with a Fixed Benefit plan. This will give you nationwide protection for both smaller and larger catastrophic medical expenses!
Who These Plans Are Not Ideal For

We do not recommend these plans if you are unhealthy or have planned medical procedures in the near future as they will not cover pre-existing medical conditions. We also do not recommend these plans if you have a large retirement ‘nest egg’ to protect because all fixed benefit plans can leave you somewhat exposed to larger medical expenses. They are more of a medical plan than medical insurance in that regard.
